awesome thanks. im gonna go pick up a timing light right now and try to time it. Not sure if the marks are still there but we will see. Also, i would but a 350 but my limit right now is left to 1200 before i leave for the military. and we cant sell parts for extra cash, only buy XD. but ill deff do the timing and i put a new tire on the back that is just a hair more in circumferance. Great idea on replacing and simply rebuilding the ehads. think ill do that to gain that 30 years of lost performance and slap in a mild cam. Maby a torque converter and shift kit and we should be getting close to my goal i hope. appreciate the feedback

On the 305 I had, timing made all the difference. My 305 liked as much advance as I could give it before it started hard and/or started detonating. I believe I ended up with about 14 degrees initial and 36 total, with 10 vacuum and 12 mechanical advance.
None of my friends would believe it was a 305, it was a nice strong motor. However, if you started backing off the advance a little, it would become doggy fast, and suck more gas to boot. All I had on it were a couple bolt-ons. A Performer EPS intake, headers and duals.

alright so i spend the last of my budget (wells till got 300 left) on machine working my heads to slightly increase int/exh valve sizes, tiny tiny bit moy CR and getting me all cleaned and rebuilt at the machine shop as well as throwing in a matching mild cam with it all. Ill spend the last 300 or so on a shift kit and see how she does. ill post updates when i find out. thanks for all the advice guys i really appreciate it 🙂
