Last week while under my 1999 Suburban, I noticed the rear shocks were really bad. The tubes were totatally rusted out, the piston was all rusted and seized. The front ones which are Monroe-Made NAPA Responses (NAPA's base line), looked brand new. Anyway the rears were nasty and definitely weren't doing their job. So today I went to NAPA and bought 2 new rear shocks, I got the same as the fronts, NAPA Response, just so they all are the same kind, and they were the less expensive model. Still made in America though. I figured no reason to go all out on shocks since I'm not off road very often, and I don't tow a trailer very often either. After replacing the shocks, I took it for a ride and really didn't notice much difference in ride quality. Do the shocks really play this small of a role in ride feel? I wasn't expecting anything major, but I figured it might feel a little more tame over bumps and around corners. I guess if anything this just proves I'm not one to fall for the placebo effect. Anyone else have a similar or different experience?
