Do you have a heat shield over your starter? it is a cheap part and could save you the problem of having a remote solonoid. I have a 355 with vortec heads and headers too and in the 10 years I have had the headers I have never burned up a starter.

This is the way to go! GM solenoids are notorious for being heat sensitive!

p.s. I have a ministarter WITH the heat shield. Might explain why I never have had a problem.

On a 355 sbc? sounds like the starter wasn't aligned/shimed correctly. You sure you have the correct starter for your flexplate? (count the teeth and buy the correct starter)

Ain't that the truth, I have had several chevys over the years that would start fine as long as they were cold.Drive 5 miles and the stupid starter was heat soaked.

i had the same problem in my 83 malibu replaced it like 3 times chimed it every way possible i finally got mad enough spent $100 on a mini high torque starter and never looked bak a freind of mine was also having starter problems and i told him the same he got a ministarter and solved his issue so it was the best buk i spent on my whole car lol
