well i could just post this in my build thread, but after spending almost $200 after tax and shipping on a tachometer, im gonna make a big deal out of it. well my tach came today in the mail, i got an autometer, the only way to go as far as tachs. i got a chrome one, heres a pic after an unboxing.

sorry the pics are kinda dark, i had the car battery disconnected, and the car was in the garage.
what i did (with some suggestions from 307 Regal, thanks) was, remove the dash surround and bottom vent under the steering column and drill the holes where i wanted it. then i got two bolts that were laying around, and a lock nut for the one and put two nuts on the other, one tightened on top of the other. after putting the bracket on, i made a notch on the hard plastic of the dash surround and wrapped the wires in electrical tape. i put the dash surround back on, putting the taped wires through the notch i made (located right behind the bracket) so there is only one visible taped wire behind the tach that is hard to see. then i ran the wires through the back of the dash surround and up under that weird piece of plastic with the insulation on the back. then i was at the fuse box and ran my red and white wires. i ran my black wire right behind the kick panel and grounded it there. now that pesky green wire. after all that, i decided to call it a night and save the green wire for tomorrow. im not really thrilled about taking a drill to my firewall, but it will have to happen. i'll update this tomorrow. heres some more pics.

Re: new tach and install

Lookin' good so far, Joe! Make sure that wire you're running through the firewall is protected from anything abrasive. For instance, if you just drill a hole, stick the wire through, and leave it as is then after enough vibration the metal might start wearing through the insulator on that wire. You could try wrapping electrical tape around the wire where it contacts the firewall or use a rubber grommet.

Re: new tach and install

Instead of drilling a hole, punch it along side the speedometer cable. Just go through the existing grommet. That is how I did mine. Tim

Thanks, I'm pretty satisfied with it myself. I will definately use a grommet through the firewall seeing they give you one in the kit, and I will also wrap that wire in tape where it meets the firewall just to be safe.

Re: new tach and install

Well, I meant to hook my tach up today, but I just didn't have time for it. There's always tomorrow. However, I did finally get my sunvisors put back on. I'll post pics of everything in my build thread within the next couple days.
