I like the stock buick 455 myself. Change the motor mounts. Use 305 Monte Carlos front springs. The v6 brackets bolt on, no problem. All fits under hood and great street sleeper.

I had the 1968 LeSabre with a 350. The best gas available would not stop the detonation. I replaced it with a 1974 short block but retained the '68 heads and the four barrel intake. That was the answer. I could run cat piss and it ran great. As for the crummy oil pressure the TA oil pump kit boosted mine way up there. It came with new gears, shims, and several pressure bypass springs. All that said I really loved that 350 motor in that '68 land yacht.
Must have been the high(er). comp with a stock tight cam then. Plus the open chambered heads aren't the best in terms 9f combustion efficiency I spose.

open chambered heads aren't the best
In 1967 Pontiac had closed chamber heads that required air injection tubes for CAL emissions. But in 1968 they changed to open chamber heads and that let them meet emissions without AIR until 1980 when the 301 had it.

Another Alternative to Buick 350 is the Rover V8: http://www.aluminumv8.com/ it's called the Rover V8 but it's actually a Buick engine (they sold Rover the 215 in the 60s and Rover called it the 3.5 and it evolved into a 4.9 eventually in the early 2000s).
You will need an adapter plate to mount the 2004R trans since it nor the 215 had the BOP bolt batter.

2. You will rip stock 3.8 mounts, get poly GN mounts or install a torque strap of some kind.
HRPartsNStuff engine mounts are expensive. But they kick butt. They are WAYYYYY better than the RockAuto V6 mounts that I was using, and there still isn't any extra vibration in the car. 10/10

I just used a torque strap, I'm sure poly is the way to go, sometimes I wish i installed a buick 455. parts seem more available. I love the fact of my buick in a buick but I cannot justify the ta heads, I mean I could easily replace the engine for not much more then they want for just heads (sorry TA). I keep the ac in my car BUT I had a custom ac hose made and I converted to r134. Josh

My friend had a 1979 Buick LeSabre with the 350. He did everything he could to it and it was a solid performer while remaining streetable. Then he got ambitious and built a 1970 Stage 1 Buick 455 with lots of TA Performance parts and a built T-400, and posi 3:42 rear. It was super fast and fun until it exploded on the BQE late one night. He ended up junking the car and his last words were "I should have kept the 350 in it".

Be aware that it is illegsl to install an engine that is older than your car. Only engines the same year or newer are legal to install. The only legal V8 choices tor an 80's G body are Olds 307, SBC, LT, or LS.
