Hello all. My name is Jim, and I’m no stranger to g-body cars. I‘ve had a few of them during my years on this planet: 78 Grand Am, 84 Cutlass, 87 Monte SS. The 78 Grand Am was my first car, given to me by a family member who couldn’t keep it running (not mechanically inclined.) He didn’t think it was worth sinking money into so he bought a new car. No rust and about 70k on the GA in 1989. He told me if I could get it running, I could have it. Discovered it had no gas getting to the carb. Fuel filter was plugged solid. Cleaned that out, installed a new one, and drove it 300 miles home. I think he was a little sick over that one. I regretted selling that car a couple years later. I’m now on the hunt for another one. If yall have any leads, I’d would be eternally grateful.

The 84 Cutlass was a nice brougham that I found in the swap sheet (remember those papers?!) V6 and a burnt transmission. drove it home, rebuilt the trans, and drove it for quite awhile like that. The V6 just couldn’t cut the mustard, so I dropped in a 350/TH350 with a cheap shift kit. The car was a blast to drive then! It had highway gears still, but it had positraction and would bark the tires going into 2nd gear at 50mph! I beat the crap out of it until I decided it needed to go, and I traded up to a pretty nice 4x4 blazer.

The 87 Monte SS was a car my parents bought in 1988 at the GMAC repo auction, back when anyone could go to them. Absolutely perfect car with almost no miles on it. I remember coming home from school one day and seeing it in the garage. I immediately fell in love! Long story short, I ended up buying the car after my parents split, and I kept it ever since. It has about 58k on it now and still smells new inside.

I look forward to getting to know people here. I’m on a J-body group as well for my Z24 and have met some wonderful people there! If you’re still reading this, thanks for checking out my novel. I promise I won’t be this rambling on every post lol

Welcome! TONS of knowledge and experience here.!

Jim (88marmon), welcome to GBF from Seattle, Wa. with a '78 Caballero and a '79 El Camino. I saw your post on the non-gbody thread. That Z24 is a sharp looking car, you've taken very good care of it.
