Searching the internet looking for forums to learn from and found this one.

So, hi. I picked up a 79 Malibu from a friend and am just giving it some TLC as it has sat for a while.

Basically a 305/auto car. Power bench seat, etc... Most of my dash lights do not work and I'm looking to install a couple of manual gauges for temp & oil pressure. I'm still not quite sure how to pull the cluster.

Anyway, nice site and nice meeting you guys.

It's relatively straight forward...not difficult, but use caution.
Here's pic or two of my old gauge cluster. It might give you an idea of what to expect.

I had an 81 Malibu with a similar dash. I only had a few lights that worked in the dash. When I pulled it I found out why. The printed circuit board became delaminated. I had to find another dash in the yards. I hope that's not the case here, but it does happen.

Thanks guys. So is it just the 5 bolts and it pulls right out? (Excluding the speedo cable I'm guessing)

Thanks. I'd say the body is a 7.5-8 out of 10. It's got a couple of tiny rust bubbles at the base of the doors (pea size at most) and then a spot at the base of the drivers rear qtr that is bubbled and will need attention.

The interior has a few dash cracks and it also some cigarette burns in the front bench seat. Basically it's sat in storage for several years and fired up occasionally. Has 48k original miles on it.

Engine was it still has the 305 but the owner put longtube headers and 3 chamber flowmasters on it. I like the sound. Very mellow.

Is a work in progress but just a Sat eve cruiser for the wife and I. I grew up with Fords so there is a lot of little things I don't understand yet, but will get there....haha.
