Yea it is a learning experience every step of the way seems two steps back for 1 step forward but truth be told I wouldn’t trade it for anything and there is nothing better than learning skills you can use in the future and I can pass to my daughter who even at 2 looks like she may be car obsessed she even sleeps with toy cars instead of teddy bears [emoji23]
You are in Florida, Cutlassefi, his real name is Mark Remmel is also there. He is not only an aftermarket EFI tech, he also builds Olds engines and has brought many products to the market including billet Stroker cranks and 10cc dish ultra modern 1mm ring pack forged pistons from Mahle that would fix your miserable low compression. It would put your motor around 9.5 to 1. Other than getting the tune spot on, do the gears first. Basically the torque converter stall is the rpm the car launches at under hard acceleration. Engine torque output plays a big part in what the torque converter actually stalls at.
#5 heads are about as good as you can get for a small block. a bit of port, and polish with some hardened seats you won't need to spend the money on aftermarket. Nice looking car! Best wishes, and sorry about the disease. Hope you get to make a bunch of good memories with it.
Thanks for the kind thoughts we do make great memories together so I’m glad I just wish he could still work on it even though he’s had the disease and been in the wheelchair since I was a toddler and I knew it would slowly eat away at him until he died it’s really shitty to watch.
Thanks it’s a very fun project I’m in love with learning the Old school stuff and getting in way deeper than I’m used to and more performance than I’m used to I’ve always by necessity and budget been a maintenance and diagnostician type but turns out I have a lot to learn about diagnostics and how motors work.
Eventually when I’m not so lazy I’m going to make a build thread
