Greetings

Just bought an 85 442. Trying to order plug wires and plugs. Most of the part store websites give only Vin Y motor option in the drop down sub model lists.

Anyone have issues with this before? My understanding is should be Vin 9 engine?

thanks

AC Delco 608B. GM p/n 12043726. Or equivalent. VIN Y or 9 use the same plug wires. But yes, you have a 9 engine.

Set of 8 plug wires. These are the updated ones without the retainers that clip into the wire retainer ring on the distributor cap. This will make the ring useless.

I assume you can’t get the ones with retainer?
Thanks for info. What about spark plugs? Stock that is.

NAPA Part Number . Belden 700241. Fit both apps. 9 or Y vin. $26.99 for the set. I have 20+years experience working for NAPA. They are quality fit and have a lifetime warranty from factory defects. Hope it helps.

They haven't made the ones for the retainer in a LONG time. At least ACDelco hasn't. Sorry. If you can't find a set with the retainer style boots, get a set of wire end clips for the distributor posts and rob the retainer style boots from your original set, you can make your own. That's about the only way other than finding an older NOS set.

As far as the spark plugs, your original plugs are ACDelco R46SX (GM p/n 5613881) with an .080 gap due to chasing lower emissions. This gap is WAY TOO HUGE and will put a major strain on your ignition system. GM found out the hard way and their replacement plug is the R46SZ (GM p/n 5613882) with a .060 gap. You can find them on ebay a lot of times for cheap. Around 20 bucks/set give or take.

Personally, I'd jack that gap down to around .040 or so, and your engine will run just fine, and not strain the ignition system.

If these wires are like the ones depicted in the picture, this set mentioned above has boots that have the correct retainer ends if you go this route.
