You did not list a price but I would guess as pictured probably around $600 or more with the horseshoe shifter.
So I would say probably no one has considered it for a few reasons first being the "Sticker shock" but also since this is a restoration item for a 72" Monte it was not designed for the floor shape of a Gbody and would require modification to fit and after spending all that money do you really want to grind and cut it to make it work.
I also feel the look is very outdated and would not flow well with a Gbody interior. This is my opinion others may vary.

I contemplated it for my project el Camino. However, I call it the spare parts car, so in the long run, it wasn't worth the money to me.

Secondly, wasn't sure it would work well with the overdrive transmissions

Yes $599.99 How much mod work would you have to do they both sit on about the same size floor hump. And i personally like the look.. i priced a console for the malibu and its $640 without a shifter. And hoping to find a good one in a salvage yard is a long shot. Every gbody ive come across is just a shell

If you just want a center console that fits then obviously any factory Gbody center console will work and probably the most common would be a Monte console since a majority of the SS's came with buckets.
Even if you find one that needs a little work there are plenty of aftermarket replacement parts out there such as glove box lids, shifter covers etc.
You can search Craigslist for one or even a car that is being parted out and also you can place something here in the wanted section for your needs.
You can also go to junkyards and possibly find some other make vehicle that might look good in your Malibu.
I actually have a center console from a 78' Trans Am that I modified to fit my Monte since my car is not an SS.

To answer your question as far as fitting a 1972 Monte console in a Gbody you can see the Gbody floor pan on the left with the rounded trans hump compared to the contoured stepped 72' Monte pan on the right if you look at the console it follows the step shape of that pan which would most likely give you large gaps where the console will not meet the floor
