I have an 1986 cutlass supreme. I did a motor swap from a olds 307 to a sbc 350. After the motor swap the heat was working along with the fan speeds on low and high. I don't have an a/c compressor hooked up yet. It's cold as heck right now and I really need my heat to be working. I started having the problem after I put on a new eldebrock intake and carb. The problem I'm having now is that I'm not getting any air blowing from my vents on any speed hi or low I'm also not getting any heat. I replaced the blower motor and blower relay. I'm still not getting anything working. The only thing that works now is that the blower motor is making a thumping noise when it is put on defrost. Please help me fix this issue.

So the blower motor isnt working at all? I had almost the same problem a little while ago. Coming up the passenger side of the motor by the headers or manifolds, there is a 4 pin connector coming up from the starter. Mine wasnt making connection so it wasnt getting power. try that. For a repair, my dad used a 4 pin trailer harness. It actually doesnt look bad and makes a way better connection. Sometimes the stock one gets hot or pinched without realising it. Try this and see if it helps

Okay I will definitely check this, I will let you know if it works thanks for the info.

Cutdawg!
Welcome to the forum ! There are some real knowledgeable guys here, But we will need to cover some basic ground and help us determine how to trouble shoot properly. No heat is a large and vague description and also left to interpretation of who is trying to help you ! Please be as informative as you can so we can work off of your information: Lets get to work:
NO HEAT:
IS the fan working at all ? (blower motor and relay have to do with fan air entering the interior)
is the air coming out of the vents lukewarm ? Ice cold after 15 minites of running ?
IS the controller changing modes? (Is vacuum connected after engine swap ?) defrost, heat, vent selection
Is coolant Full ?? Is thermostat installed ?
Thumping is something out of balance in the fan (squriell cage) or something loose in inside the plenum.
Help us help you , we all have a certain time we respond so try to get back to us as soon as you can !
Regards
Dave

Okay so I removed all plugs from the blower motor and the relays the metal prongs were dusty so I wiped them off and put a little electrical lubricant. Once I plugged everything back up it the heat came on. Now I still have 2 issues.

1. I can't switch from floor vents to defrost or make it blow out of the front vents. All it does is blow out of the floor and out of the defrost vents. When I try switching the vents nothing changes.

2. The air temp gets warm after motor runs about 20 mins or so. But the air blowing out of the floor vents is warmer than the air blowing out of the defrost vents.

2. My blower motor works fine now it blows on all speeds except high. Once I put it on high it completely shuts off.

Also the blower motor and blower motor relay are brand new. There is coolant in the car and the thermostat was replaced about 100 miles ago.

Thanks in advance for your help.

1 check the vacuum line is still hooked up for the selector
2 make sure there is no air in the system, if the return line temperature from the heater core is alot lower than the intake line the heater core is blocked.
2(b) check the connector on the passenger side near the front of the valve cover, there is a 10 gauge red wire that feeds the relay for the high speed. Check both sides of the connector to make sure you have power. That is a common source of problems for the high speed

I have the same problem w/ my '86-Buick/GN. First, the problem was the switch worked on low & med., but, not HI. So, I checked the Blower motor w/ power from bat., and it blowers fine. So, next, I replaced the blower motor (4) prongs relay that sits on side of A/C unit. Still, just air on (low & med.) blowing. So, next I replaced the switch on the climate panel. Then, afterwards NO air will blow, at all. Next, I replaced the (4) prong resistor by the A/C, Still .. no air blows. I will check next what one of the members suggested ... "there is a 4 pin connector coming up from the starter, mine (his) was not making connection so it was not getting power".. I will check this out. Also, as I was checking this problem with my test light probe pointer -- for (+) & (-) indication, the power Antenna stop working. The radio comes on & plays, but Antenna does not go up. And, of course, I hae check all (fuses) on the fuse block. The one for the blower motor has a (20A-12V) circuit breaker type fuse. I have replaced it as well. HELP!
