Another One Bites the Dust

If I read the Editor's Page of the September issue of Popular Hot Rodding, this periodical is folding as well. Too bad I'm paid up through April 2016...

It's official. Today I got a copy of Car Crap in the mail. The cover said "High Performance Pontiac has been discontinued with the Oct 2014 issue." That was followed by a spiel to convince me how wonderful CC is and that I will be getting it for the remainder of my subscription. OK, let's take a look, what's in the centerfold? Oh goody! A red Camaro. Yawn.

Abut a month ago I started getting Motor Trend newsletters in my email. Huh. Today I received a copy of the magazine, with the explanation on the inside back cover that it replaces my subscription to PHR. I echo Bonnewagon. MT contains about 85% short blips on all the most available car brands and models offered in the US. Meh. All the ways I could sign up for payments. Oh, and Big Brother embedded in the ECM.

Bonnewagon, I'll trade you your subscription to Car Craft. At least that one occasionally has G-body data that may be useful.

Motor Trend? Yuck. Automobile maybe, I love Jean Lindamood Jennings' hilarious take on all things automotive. She's like a female P.J.O'Rourke. I've gotten Hot Rod on and off for like forever, currently it's about the best out there, and so cheap it's silly not to subscribe. And at least they include the kind of serious street rods that Rod And Custom used to feature.

Well, damn. These people are entirely reasonable. Here is an example of what being polite may get you.

"Thank you for your email. I cancelled your subscription to Motor Trend as you requested. The last issue you will receive will be dated October 2014.

The remaining issues has been transferred to Classic Trucks as you requested. The first issue should arrive within 4-6 weeks. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thank you for subscribing with us, we appreciate the support!

Sincerely,
Amanda Sten

Subject: Popular Hot Rodding Conversion to Motor Trend

Dear Enthusiast Network Customer Service,

Thank you for my free issue of Motor Trend. You would like to direct my purchasing dollars toward your advertisers. May I suggest you are more likely to be successful if you would convert my residual PHR subscription to Classic Truck instead of Motor Trend. I would actually subscribe to that one, and already purchase parts for my old trucks from LMC.

If you will approve my request, please also unsubscribe this email address from MT Online.

Thanks for your consideration."

Hey, I'll have to try that! Being nice- what a concept. Now, what is left after the Inquisition that I would actually want to read?
