No more Roadkill/Motor Trend titles on youtube?!

And to think that back in the "good old days" we were content with getting new content (aka magazine) once a month.

I get why they did it, but while I did enjoy some of their titles, many I have no interest in. Even Roadkill went from a couple of (presumably)buddies doing crazy things that average working guys might do, to some pretty spendy "trick stuff of the week" kind of things.

One thing's for sure, nothing remains the same for long, especially in today's world.

Cali, if you care to, in what capacity were involved with TEN?.

After reading this I miss the days I gave my money to Peterson Publishing for my mags to read. Guess when you take car guys out of the buisness of making car mags you you get things like this. Like anything else, put a suit that knows nothing about the subject matter of the buisness into the leadership positions you punish the die hard customers.

This is one of the biggest problems, it's in the program itself. It went from a few guys fiddle****ing with POS cars whilst drinking beer. The whole reason Roadkill got popular was because it was low buck, down to earth projects, normal guys doing the projects, and it didn't cost anything to watch. But they have the wrong idea if they think I'm gonna watch them throw together a new big budget race car in their fancy garage every week. And they are even further mistaken if they think I'm gonna pay to watch it. There's 10 other programs just like that already on TV that I can watch for free.

I was senior news editor for Truck Trend (which included both responsibilities for the magazine title as well as all of the website, which was a portal for content from all the Truck Group titles (i.e. Truck Trend, Truckin, Diesel Power, Four Wheeler, Jp, Petersen's 4-Wheel & Off-Road, etc.) Prior to that, I was briefly news director for Motor Trend, but that side of the business tends to be ultra-cliquish, and the "clan" decides pretty quickly if they like you or not. They made it pretty clear they did not like me. So yes, I can tick off the bucket list that I worked for Motor Trend, but if I knew then what I know now having gone through it, I don't know if I would have sacrificed those years of my life again.

There are enough other "guys hanging in their shop building cool stuff" videos on youtube that although loosing the RK is annoying, doesnt phase me much. It is tough watching as many ads as their was on the newest video. And adblock doesnt work. Will I still watch RK and others? Probably. But not as religiously.

The bigger loss is that the discovery lawyers finally shut down the "Chief and Shawn" podcast from street outlaws which was often one of the funniest things I had listed to in a long time and was way better than the show.

Basically, discovery is loosing cable viewership and there was a functional moderate yet low income source with MT on demand. They just had to flip the switch to a more money making model and thats what you see.

-The podcasts are no longer on their website, youtube or any other place
-They have been in legal problems before (they claim, hard to corroborate but far from unbelievable)
-Totally ripped on Richard and gas money on one of their previous episodes for their race (which can't be anything good for discovery) for basically outsourcing their entire build. Half of discovery "talent" bashing another half of "talent" can't be a good method for business.

It's hard to tell if its made up drama or what, but one would assume that it shut down.

I have the $5 a month Motor trend subscription. Tons of content. However I'm sure they'll raise the price on it, and then raise it again, at which point I'll be out. It's getting so complicated these days with content providers and how many different accounts you have to manage and pay for.

The Car and special interest magazine industry died with Robert Peterson.

I went to Motor Trend.com, it asked me to pay for the videos - I'm out. Some of the videos were enjoyable, but as many have said, I already pay MORE than enough for cable and internet. TEN may not realize it, but IMO, they are just alienating the people who made them who they are.
