you should also check the return lines from the sending unit, my lines were dry-rotted and the car wouldnt run if there was less than 1/2 a tank.
 
If it's an OE replacement pump it won't have a return line. There is a vent line but even if that parts rotted it won't affect the pump, the only line from the tank that will affect fuel to the pump is the supply line from the sending unit.
 
ok i removed the mech. f.p. and held my finger on the pushrod. The thing didnt move. So all you guys that said check the cam may have been right. There probably isnt a fuel pump cam lobe on there.I guess Im going with an electric fuel pump.I came too far to take this thing back apart.
