Ok, I have been all over this board post things I need help with. I have finished a lot. Although, now I need help with the worse thing of the whole project. PAINT!!!!!

The car has been a outside car for a number of years. The paint shows it. There is surface rust and the vynal roof has been removed and not completed. There is some rust in between the frt and 1/4 window and the 1/4 window to the back. I have an advantage at the dealership I work at that I can have someone do it on the side.

My concern is that the car will be kept outside year round. It is a cruiser, not a show car. I need some help with the options that I have. I wanted to do the "flat black" thing with the stock color on the bottom half but, I found that I have some rust and dents below the belt line.

When I bought the car I was going to go with a what a couple friends have done which is use DP90 and prime/seal it with that. Then just drive it. But, the problem that I didnt know is that the vehicles they are working on and cruising spend most of their life in a garage. Mine will not. The problem is that the flat dp90 "grays" out over time due to not having a UV protector in it.

So next idea, fix the rust and body work and prime as needed then spray the car with a single stage black flat. I have found 3 of those such products. (Simm's hot rod black, ppg rat rod black etc)

I am hoping someone will come one here and tell me a magic product that can be used and will be affordable.
Once again, cruiser not a show car but a car that is show-able. (I know what a tool)

Any advice?

John Deere Blitz black

BINGO!! It's a durable paint, and can be obtained alot cheaper than Hot Rod Flatz, etc. I believe it's made by Valspar. Just go to your nearest John Deere dealer. I think you can also add a hardener to the paint as well.

I have a friend that has a chopped '50 Mercury and '32 Ford roadster painted with Blitz Black.

I had someone else tell me to go to the tracktor trailor supply and get that.

Can you tell me about prep and such?

I know that Ill still have to fix the body work and rust but, what about prep for the rest?

If you are painting the whole car flat black all you need to do is sand the entire vehicle with 400 grit sand paper. That is all I would do to it. Just make sure you sand around your trim, mouldings, etc, really good or else it will peel and not look good at all. Sand one panel at a time, when that panel is sanded then move on to the next one, if you jump around from panel to panel then you will miss something and you will find it after you paint.
When doing bodywork make sure you get all your bodyfill areas very flat and smooth. If you can feel a repair area you will definetly SEE it after it is painted.
A good paint job is all in the prep work.
Hope this helps.

WOWSERS Steve, I just spent an hour on that site and all I wanted was to see what it was. NICE!

They really helped me out alot, they gave me tips and didn't mind sharing their knowledge but don't take short cuts and ask them how to fix it afterwards cause you won't like the answer. :|

I don't like to post links to other sites but since bodywork and paint are really discussed in detail in here I figured it'd be ok
