Could I just put it in one of my downpipes? Does it have to be in like an X or H pipe type thing so it can read both sides at once or do they not work like that?
 
O2 sensors need to be as close to Header /exhaust manifold as possible . getting hot is what makes them work . If you have to mount downstream then they sell Heated O2 sensors that you have to run 12v to
 
Which gauge did you get (should be in the destructions)?. AEM recommends within 18" of the last exhaust port.
If you can get ahold of an O2 HeliCoil kit, you could just drill and tap it into the manifold.
