My friend worked at GM dealerships in the 80's and told of odo rollbacks done by the used car sales dept. I always thought there were visual clues - numbers misalignment, smooth or replaced brake pedal cover, seats, windshield, worn or new paint?

I have heard of used car lots being charged with doing rollbacks but never a GM dealership or any other dealership.

My dad had an 82 Corvette. It was one of those Champagne colored anniversary cars with the cross fire fuel injection. He decided to sell it and took it to Landmark Chevrolet on the North Freeway. This was probably in 1984 or maybe 1985. He had it there on consignment. The deal ended up going south and when he went and got the car they had rolled 10k miles off of it. That place was one of the GM dealers that didn't survive the financial crisis of 2008.

I have to rollback my post, I have now heard of one GM dealership roiling back the odometer .....🙂

edit, I have heard of two now...
