Just did an oil change in a 1983 olds cutlass supreme 3.8...when i started it up the next morning oil was leaking like crazy..at first i thought it was the oil filter..so i look and the leak is coming from behind the oil filter...but only when started..its leaking bad and dont know where its comin from...has anybody had this problem or know what it is..? Thanx

Im pretty sure thats what its is but i had no problems before i did the oil change...no leaks anywhere else but behind the filter...so thats most likely what the problem is then huh..

could it be the oil filter seal is broken? It's hard from me to understand what you mean by behind the oil filter

Thats the only place i could see it leaking from...all the other gaskets are brand new..but it is alot of oil..if i leave it running..at least a half quart every 2 min..

did you double gasket it? that's where the old oring from the old filter sticks and then you screw on the new filter and that causes a leak

Did you make absolute sure that you removed all of the old O ring from the old filter? Sounds like either the O ring on the new filter got pushed out of it's groove or there was some left over stuck to the block from the old one. Take the filter off and go from there.
