I was doing a tune-up on my car (a 305v8) and found oil on one of my spark plugs my cars been running like sh*t lately and i figured a tune up would fix that problem and I ended up finding that. i did some reading a found out it might be a bad valve guide on the head but id rather just buy new heads instead of getting the ones i have fixed i was thinking of getting H.O heads or heads i can pass smog with and i wanted to know how much money all that was gonna cost me should i get heads and if yes what would be good OR should i just fix the ones i have fixed (i've allready tried a fouler it didnt work) or could it be something else???

if the oil is smothered in oil, that can also be a sign of worn out piston rings

haha yeah or it'll be like my truck with 1/4 of #3 missing and a bad head gasket making #5 dead to lol. funny thing about the whole thing is the fact that the heads, cylinder walls, and valves where all good with no damage or scratches at all. i highly doubt its that bad but i just thaught i would share my recent motor issue

valve seals are really easy and cheap to replace. To rule out the rings do a compression test, then squirt some oil in the cylinder to seal around the piston. If compression goes up the rings are bad. if not its likely your valve seals.
Valve seals usually cause a puff of blue when you first start it up.

since it's a 305 and you have to deal with emissions, there isn't much you can do. you can get some more power w/out failing emission, but not much.
that being said, HO heads and the HO cam from a junkyard are the best thing to do to the engine. plus you can get an emissions compliant intake and do some port matching. of course you'll also have to tune everything properly. one trick, set the timing at factory/where it passes emissions and mark the cap and intake. then tune it for best power and mark that. this way you can easily tune it for emissions and set it back when you leave the station.
a good 2.25in dual exhaust and good gears will make it sound and feel better. (i'm assuming you have the usual numerically low gears)
