Oil on head bolts?

Using engine oil, lightly oil the threads and under the heads/washers on T-T-Y bolts unless otherwise specified by the vehicle service manual. Clean, oiled threads prevent binding, allowing for accurate and consistent torquing. Be careful not to over-oil the bolts, especially if they are threading into a blind hole. Too much oil will hydrolock the bolt and give false torque readings. Any bolts that pass through a water jacket must have a sealer applied to the threads to prevent corrosion and leaks. This from Fel-Pro.

That is why they say to let the oil drain off the bolt so only the threads are lightly oiled. NOT to fill the hole. But dry threads can get hung up and give a wrong reading too. So chase all threads first.

I have read that antiseize on bolts will not affect the torque readings but I don't have any documentation to verify that. Is there any kind of sealant or theadlock on the new bolts?

Nope bolts are dry. Oddly the two intake studs had some yellow stuff on the threads. When I screwed them in the stuff cracked right off. So I used Loktite blue on them instead.

I decided to put them in dry. FSM said nothing about oil so I defer to that. I made sure the threads were chased and clean. But I did hear a muffled "oooooh" when I tightened them though.
Better not pout, you better not cry,
Better not scream, I'm going in dry,
Santa Claus is coming...….

That's all I got... 🙂
