this all depends on if your motor is origanal or not . 1955 to75 use the thin seal,1976 to 85 use thick seal.and 86 used i peice gasket.if not certain once the timing cover is removed ,measure from pan rail to bottom of pan lip 2 and a quarter is thin gaket,2 and 3/8 is thick gasket. If you got a 1976 to 85 they are making a one piece gasket now,i would go that way if possible less hassle and better sealing.

i get the tick one and sand it down for a custom fit to the pan and motor sometimes the thin ones won't compress as we as other places. It's a little trick i learned from a mentor i had in school.

Plus you can say you have a "custom oil pan gasket" 😛 I always order the "thicker" one and use a gasket maker/sealer. It also helps to use studs instead of just regular bolts and of course a pan thats made out of quality steel/aluminum.

Are you getting a original 3-piece gasket or a 1-piece. I would get a 1 piece gasket if you are not. The are worth the couple of extra bucks.

my 350 is a 1972 block so i was going with the thin seal. but i ordered a three peice set that comes with both thick and thin options so i might decide the "custom" thick idea lol. thanks for the input
