Akron, Oh.
Im building a chevy 383 to go into my 86' cutlass. I bought a stock oil pan from summit racing cause I THOUGHT :? ; it would fit. It obviously doesnt fit. The rods hit the side of the pan. Now I need a notched oil pan to move on with the build, with out stripping my pockets. Summit sells what I need for 150.00, ebay turned up nothing, basically I dont want to spend 150 bucks. any suggestions would help.

Well, a stock pan is a relative term. It will fit a stock engine. But, you did not get a original GM part, you bought a reproduction, and sometimes that will not work. If you can get an original pan used from a junkyard, etc, you may be able to make that work. After all, a 400 is a stock engine with that crank. If you used aftermarket crank and rods, they may not clear either. As for what to do, you could try clearancing the pan with a small body hammer, or get a special pan made for that purpose.

its supposed to be stock fit and yes its an aftermarket rotating assembly. But the funny thing is that the machine shop didnt have to do any clearancing around the pan rails or anything. So a stock pan should fit. I'll probably get a junkyard find to see if it truly fits like you suggested.
