Hello all I am getting ready to start my car and I used a old tank I had laying around and cleaned the outside ect. My question is there is about a quarter tank left of gas that I think is 3-4 years should I drain it or mix some stabilizer and some good 91 fuel?

if its easily accessible I would drain the fuel just to see than there is no other gunk in the tank. Otherwise I would run a cheap plastic pre-filter before the fuel pump for the first few tanks of fuel to catch anything that may be in the tank and lines that got past the sock.

I would not use it. If it's that old it's to late for a stabilizer. A couple of options first siphon it out and check the tank for corrosion. Options

1) call your city or town and ask if they take or know where you can dispose of hazardous waste.

2) call a service station, junk yard or waste management place to see if they take hazardous waste.

There may be fees but at least it would get taken care of properly.

I myself did the first option. My town does a hazardous waste event where I took my antifreeze and old fuel.

you can burn it, the car may run like sh*t with that gas but it won't harm anything. If it's gas with ethanol you can be sure the gas will have water in it I would add a few gallons of non ethanol gas and fire it up

II would definitely drain the gas, use for parts cleaner or anything besides thru the system. I bought an '88 Monte that sat for 3-4 years also having about 3/4 of a tank and they were starting it up regularly. Having methanol/ethanol in todays fuel just acts like a sponge to moisture so they could start it and it did idle a bit rough but nothing serious but when I tried driving it, it would die about every 8-10 miles with no power to speak of. I replaced mostly everything fuel system related but the worst part affected was the sock on the pickup tube in the tank. The fuel had jelled on it and it would suck it shut then run out of fuel. When it sat for a few, I guess the sock would open back up and let it fill the system again. Plus old gas smells terrible tryin to run it thru.
