It looks to be an 84' Caddy automatic, but that "9" is confusing the hell out of me.

Can anyone decode this one for me? This is my personal one.

17054938
0529

I'm thinking its off a cadillac.

This is how I interpret it:
1705 = '76-79
4 = last number of application year, but 4 doesn't make sense since that would be '84. If it was from '84, the first four numbers should have been 1708 instead.
9 = this number is usually "1" or "2" for federal emissions or "4" or "5" for California and "9" doesn't make sense.
3 = Cadillac
8 = Auto trans (usually even numbers for auto, odd for manual)
0529= Julian date, which would lead me to believe the 52nd day of 1979

You might want to re-check that number. I'm guessing it's probably 17059438 instead. I'm not trying to discredit Bonnewagon either. I just happen to have my Q-jet book here and I checked the numbers since that odd ball 9 was there.

From the Carburetor Doctor web catalog: http://www.carbkitsource.com/carbs/catalog/Oldsmobile/index.html

These are the carb ID numbers for 1973-74 Olds 350 or 455:
7043250, 7043253, 7043255, 7043256, 7044280, 7044559, 17054938, 17054939, 17054940
It's for an automatic (final digit is an even number).

Can't tell any more detail from their catalog page. Probably need a 73 or 74 Olds Service Manual or Parts Book to verify exact application.

That nails it jmt455. They don't follow the codes, maybe service replacements?

Yeah thats what it is, its indeed a 17054938, well thats cool, i thought it was for maybe a 76-79 Olds/buick/pontiac, so it is possibly off a 455, but it looks like any of these carbs could be for either the 350 or 455, This i nice because i rebuilt it about 4 yrs. ago & just kept it in my house, the throttle plates are nice & snug 🙂 , Might work better then the 75 QJ i have that came off my 400.
