Does an Oldsmobile 307 crankshaft have the provisions for a manual transmission pilot bearing?

No. You'd have to either have it machined for a pilot bearing or they do make bushings that will install in an automatic crankshaft but it requires that you cut your input shaft on the trans shorter.

Oh. Well that certainly changes my plans. 😳
I'd sure like to put a manual trans in, but I'm not going to take apart my 307 to do it.
Looks like I'm going to have to start my engine swap sooner than I thought.
Thanks for the info.

Well, the aftermarket bushing I mentioned for an automatic crank can be installed with the engine in the car.

However I don't think it's the best solution since you have to cut the input shaft on the trans.

I agree with this since I was planning to use the trans for the next engine.

I also just realized that this means I just spent 100 dollars on headers for no reason. (Whether they actually show up or not.) I was planning to have a different trans + crossmember in the car long before having a different engine. Now it turns out to be the other way around. Lesson learned I guess.

FYI.....this is also true for all BOP cranks..... only a small percentage were machined for the manual trans bushings....despite what has been stated to the contrary on this forum before in previous threads....

Here's some info I turned up that may be useful. Mondello offers a couple bushing/bearing options that may work. PB-455 and PB-460 are the part numbers. From other reading I did it looks like you would only need to trim about 1/4" off the tip of your input shaft. That's probably not enough to make the transmission unusable for your next engine. You might be able to get the same result by spacing the transmission away from the bellhousing too -- or even a combination of both. I'm sure there's more info on this out there.

Now there's an interesting idea. I'm going to think that one over. I'm sure a 1/4 inch wouldn't be too much trouble as far as modding the trans crossmember either.
On the other hand though, I guess there's also the driveshaft to consider. I'd hate to have to shorten that and then end up needing more length for the next engine. If that's the case then I'm gonna go ahead and shift focus to engines. Thanks for the tip on the BOP cranks, Bill.

I like the spacer idea instead of trimming the shaft alone.... it seems to be a better solution and offers more options down the road.

The issue you'd run into by spacing the bellhousing or trans away from the engine is that you'd have less spline surface contact between the clutch and input shaft.

May or may not be huge deal but something to keep in mind.
