I have been searching for a factory-style replacement dipstick and tube for my 84 cutlass. It has a 307 V8, and I have been searching for months with no luck. I tried an aftermarket dipstick and tube, but it was way too loose and would not work at all. I also tried a factory-style 350/403 dipstick tube, and it was so tight it wouldn't fit in the block. If anyone knows where to find one, please let me know. Thanks.

Lightly grind the ridges on the bottom ridges of the tube. I have found the chrome ones do fit loose. Good luck finding a 307 specific tube. It will fit tight.

I had aqcuired a NOS Olds Dipstick from one of the Olds vendors a few years back. The only difference form my stock one was that it had a 'yellow T handle' and not the factory loop. Anywho, all that I see online these days is that chrome one that I can't get pressed into the block for the life of me. The OEM one is the way to go if you can find one via a web search. I can't believe that the true Olds guys would use the chrome unit and not want the OEM style. Maybe they will chime in..

sh*t there is like 5 307 cars in a junkyard near me. Too bad ya don't live in Iowa. I'd grab it and sell it to you, but I don't even have the cash to buy it myself. Good luck.

The only reason I am running a chrome dipstick is due to breaking off the original one installing headers. Frank, the chrome tubes need a bit ground off the bottom of the tube to fit in the block. Then they are loose, I use RTV to seal around the tube. I think maybe trying heat shrink tubing on the ridges may be the ticket. I made a custom Cartman handle when the billet knob fell off, that burnt on the Olds powered 4x4.

I have a stock tube in a 87 307 I'm parting out.

Really? What part number? Where on-line can it be had?
I found another thread on here from 2008, and it said that GM still has them, which should be correct. The last car than engine was in was in 1990 GM station wagons and what not. Your local dealer should be able to source the part for you for under 30$.
