I need some opinions on a problem I am having. I have a 1987 Cutlass Brougham w/ 307 vin Y motor that I am trying to restore. I am having lack of power issues.

Here's What I have done so far...
Checked Vacuum leaks
Replaced Hoses
Checked Compression I'm getting a solid 150 all around
I rebuilt the carb (stock CCC QJ)
replaced TPS
I took the cat off.

I am going to check the timing this weekend. No timing mark otherwise I would have done it already. But the car seems to run and idle ok. Just no power

Also, The vacuum to the EGR is supposed to pull 23 @ 2K rpm. I am getting about 10. at 3K i am getting 30. This seems to be EGR port problem. I'm guessing they have build up. But I don't think thats the power problem

Anyone else have lack of power problems?

after you check the timing some seafoam or top engine cleaner might be just what you are looking for if in fact you actually don't have any mechanical issues

What do you mean by no power? The 307 isn't known to have much power when it is running right.

Well, its completely flat after 30mph. wont accelerate at all unless pedal is floored and od kicks in. cant power break in wet grass. takes about 20-25 seconds to get to 60 w/ pedal floored. lose speed on slight inclines. very poor mpg.

the timing was @ 8 degrees advance. moved it to about 22-23 degrees @ 1100 rpm and is much improved. however it sill feels weak. I should be able to power break my car, correct? Not that its something i like to do but seemed to be a good indicator of lack of power.

honestly i never owned a 307 but i dont really think they would powerbrake all that well if at all

I've done spectacular burnouts with a 86 regal i used to own, but after you let off of the brake there was no neck snapage or seat stuffing action.

Your catalytic converter is probably plugged ,disconnect it at the y pipe and see if she runs then. I worked for Cadillac for years and have seem many of these. Sometimes all the guts from the cat wind up in the muffler causing the same problem. Good luck.

he took the cat off already.
