hey im putting on #5 heads on my 77 block (that i believe to be .030 over) and was looking at head gaskets and am wondering if anyone knows if the bore size for the head gasket 8506. It is listed as 4.057 inches, the same exact size of the stock bore of an olds 350 but wasnt sure how accurate the measurement of the head gasket is. Also will I have any issues with water ports lining up head to block between the 5 heads and 77 block?

also I can't seem find a nice cheap set of felpro or similar head bolts, not looking to dish the money on arp

As far as I know....the heads and block passages are all the same for SBO 350's. Cant comment on the overbore issue. As for head bolts, I had no luck finding cheaper ones from Seal Power or Federal Mogul...so I went with ARP. I had one stretched bolt, but had to buy a whole set, so I changed them all.

how did you come up with the conclusion that one of you head bolts was stretched?

after pulling off the heads, I visually inspected the bolts. Laying them out on a flat table up against a straight edge, used a peice of angle iron to measure all of them at once...noticed one was about 1/32 longer than the rest and was slightly thinner in the middle too.

No issues what so ever with water ports. I'm running 6's on my 77 block, I take it you have already reamed the head bolt holes, correct? That's the only thing that keeps them from being a direct, no mod fit.

yep i drilled the head bolt holes to 17/32 before they got sent to the machine shop, i read i may have to drill the holes for the alignment pins some

you recall what direction you went with your head gasket?

Shouldn't have to mess with the alignment dowel at all, at least I didn't have to. I went with the headgaskets the block called for, but, my engine is stock bore. The felpro part# you listed would be correct in my case, but in yours, I would have to believe they'd offer a set for 30+ right (or at least head gaskets alone)? I never got into over bore honestly, just stockers, lol.

do you recall if the head gasket you used was right at the edges of the cylinder bore?

obviously the 77+ head bolts are 1/2 bolts but does anybody know the thread pitch? in case i wanted to piece together a set of head bolts for myself without spending the money on arp
