depending how cheaply you can get a 4 speed bellhousing for an olds, i see them around every once in a while, you can buy a plate that bolts it to that but still isn't nearly as cheap as a sbc. i think they run around 200-250 bucks. idk i personally like the being different so im going to just buy a mcleod shatterproof for like 415 bucks and bolt my t-56 to it.

So wait ... you are saying that you can get bellhousing/scatter shield from mcleod to mate a olds 350 and T-56 together?

Yep, that is exactly what i am saying

EDIT: took me a while to find it, its part # 8710-15 i could get it for like 415 ish bucks from a local shop. it says its for a chevy but i know someone that is using it and told me this is what i would need to get it to work for me.

says its for a chevy but actually has multiple pattern bolt holes, and comes with a pilot bushing. there is a different bushing you need if you run an ls series t-56 vs an lt series t-56

thanks guys ... looking like the SBC will be the best bet for me.

You should call some car shops in your area and ask them what machine shops they use. Call around and if more than one place uses the same machine shop, go to them. Ask them if they have an old 350 block laying around they can clean and hone (gen 1 engines are cheaper cuz its harder to run a roller cam but whatever). That would be the best start for your money, unless you want a crate engine. You can buy a new ready-to-go block this way for 3/400$. If you want other options its a little more, like machining for a 383 kit, they might even paint it free for you.

well .. now that might just be an option. run an olds 350 and a LS series T56. that would be sweet indeed.
