I'm going to put the 403 in the Regal for now so who makes the best cams for drag racing and street driving and idle needs to sound bad *ss but how high as in lift and how much duration before gas mileage suffers badly? It is close to winter time so might not drive it much. Does anyone make a Halo Girdle for this engine?

I'm using a 4 main girdle from J&S on my 403 and it seems to work fine. The engine is about 400 HP with 420 TQ and I spray a 150 shot. I have a Lunati 60803 cam that I think is great.

Did you have to machine the caps for that girdle? What lifters did you use? I heard Mondello's were the only ones that was the right size.

I wanted to go more than that. This Olds racer said he had one of these Mondello cams.
JM-22-25 Lift 0.512 0.523 Adv Dur 274°/280° Dur @ .050 230° 236° Lobe center 108° RPM Range 1400-6000
$149.00
I was thinking of this cam
JM-25-28 Lift 0.523 0.544 Adv Dur 280°/292° Dur @ .050 236° 248° Lobe Center 108° RPM Range 2000-6500

I just don't want to go too small and regret it later.

If you go to big you will regret it immediately. You need to consider the compression ratio, rear gears, and TQ converter.
You can hear what my car sounds like in this video, not so much at idle but at wot. I pedaled it off the line when the tires started spinning.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idmTND3xgHY

So what does it run in the 1/4? I had to tell my camera man to keep it rollin and watch the scoreboard to see the times. On a Big Block Buick the bigger the cam and carb is the key to fast! I talked to an Olds drag racer and he said he has a 403 short block, a set of 455 heads and a rpm intake but havn't got the price yet. Will my accessories fit with the 455 heads?
Here is the Buick that I race. Cam specs 542 in 535 ex 344 354 adv dur 272 282 at .050 LC 110 it is radical up to 3000 RPM
I don't want this much in this engine but it works with 10-1 compression.

I have a 403 that I'm getting tomorrow but he has 455 J heads and I said them are smog heads but I found these 350 heads on craigs but don't know for sure if they are 70-72. He said he would check for the number tomorrow. Here is the craigs listing.

You did that with stock tires and not much stall? That's a mid 10 second car with my set up in the Buick but I don't use NOS.
