Olds cam question

I just got something like what you have I think. It looks like it is about 1000+ pages, all in one thick binder. It had an exploded image of a V6 and what looked to be part numbers in a list in one of the auction pictures. I asked the seller if it had any 5.0/307 info, but he didn't answer until the auction ended, and said NO. I'm hoping he is mistaken/couldn't find it. It's a 1985-1992 GM Parts and Accessories catalog, so I don't know why it wouldn't.

More recently, GM has issued several different parts catalogs for different car lines. Another thing to be careful of is the printing date of the parts book. There is a version of the 1965-1975 Olds parts book that is frequently offered for sale, but the printing date is April 1983! The problem is that the parts book only lists the parts that were still in the system at the time of printing. Suffice to say that by 1983, there were very few 1960s vintage parts that were still in the GM system.

well the fact that it goes to 92 ... makes me thing those are fwd Cutlasses (remember starting in 88 there was a fwd Supreme) and no there would be no V-8 info

P.S. mine is WAY over 1000 pages. I'd say if you stacked about 5 of those together ... yes 5000 sounds about right for page count. It's a monster.

Didn't Fleetwoods (or Broughams) have 307's too? Custom Cruisers or whatever they were called as well. Maybe if the myth about VIN 9 equipped Cadillacs is true there might be chance there is info on them? But then again, it's just on Oldsmobiles, so you are probably right. If it doesn't, it will be neat to have anyway.

Anyways, I don't think I've ever read about anyone making a VIN Y into VIN 9 before. Besides changing the cam and valvesprings, should there be any other problems? I plan on getting new lifters too. I'm not too concerned about the intake manifold or exhaust manifolds since I hope to use headers. Are the carburetors different or can what I have now be converted?

Check out this link;http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofe307.htm

Yes! I think I've seen that website before but don't remember there being comparisons and part numbers before. Thanks a lot.

There is no myth that Caddies had VIN 9 307s. Some did. It is believed they were all extended chassis cars ... limos and hearses. I have first hand knowledge of one from a salvage yard ... I seen the car, verified the VIN had the motor and when I went to ask about it. (apparently they purporsely left the doors locked to prevent underhood access) ... I wanted to buy the air cleaner but was told they would not part anything off that engine as the car actually ran. if I wanted it - I could buy the whole 307. Never really understood it (or why the car was actually there) ... car actually looked complete and in good shape.

Looking at the 442 website again, it says there can be problems with different cams and rear end gearing and engine RPMs. Would anyone know what a VIN 9 style cammed engine would act with the 2.56 gear in my car? I need it to be good on the highway (55+MPH cruising). The 442 Cutlasses had 3.73s which are for off the line performance right?

200-4r or th350/metric 200?

It's the 200-4R overdrive transmission. I remember now that the overdrive is what makes for good highway driveability. I'm just wondering if my axle ratio will be a problem for some reason with the performance cam (2.56). I don't think it is a posi because there is no option code for it.
