Anybody have a good pair of olds heads for a decent price..??

I have a set of 8's and 5A off a 307 that were on my 350 for about 1500 miles. The 5A heads aren't crazy performance heads but I did have the bowls cleaned up a little, and they have comp springs, and studs on them already. My 350 performed decently with them, probably good enough for most people who just want a street car. Only reason I took them off was I found a set of #5 heads in the junk yard and had them built by Bill Trovato to W-31 specs with some extra work done inside of them.

If you can get those 5A heads for a good price with better springs and bowl porting, they will do OK. I have them on my 350 in my 4x4. Mill them slightly to get a true 9 to 1 with stock 14cc pistons, assuming a 73- later 350. I figure 8.75 to 1 untouched ports, 67cc chambers, pistons. 025" in the hole and .028" Corteco head gaskets.

They're just sitting in my garage collecting dust. I would rather see them get used. Make an offer. Fyi the heads are painted lime green right now but I will clean them up and paint whatever color before they go.

I sent you a pm.

I think ditching 8 heads for 5A heads would be like trading an old $20 bill for a shiny new $10 bill.

Yeah, if you're running the stock 73-76 Olds 350 pistons and put on some 5A heads you'd get a decent boost in CR but what's the point of having higher compression if it's counteracted by poor flow?

If you're running the stock pistons, just find a set of 5-7 heads which would give you the same CR boost the 5A's would but would flow much better. If you're building this engine with new pistons, get cheap forged flat tops and use your 8 heads ( with exhaust bowls worked so they flow the same as 5-7 heads ).

Thank you for the information around how much would it be averaging to get the bowl worked on? Would it have the same conmpression as the earlier heads also??
