Olds Long block install

I've done it thru the top, came out when I pulled the distributor on my 350 and 403 Olds. Just be careful not to drop it down the hole. Needle nose vice grips work to put it in place. Then prime with a 5/16" socket.

I did install it thru the top by hand and it doesn't appear to really have any place to go. I should have know this but it's been about ~twenty years and MANY life events since I've done any engine work. Thanks.

To be clear, When I said it has no place to go; I mean that it doesn't appear that I could flock it up. 🙂

The standard 5/16" hex driveshaft will drop in from the top with no problem. If you have a HD drive shaft that is thicker with only the ends being the smaller 5/16" hex, then it has to go in from the bottom.
