On the 'mildly' Cheap SS Monte Carlo chasing a 9.0___

Northernregal - in case your misfire concern is true. I'm sending out the injectors as well - just to be sure.
If you are still running D585 coils I would think about finding a set of LS3 style or later model truck stuff. Even though you arent adding dwell, it wouldn't be a bad idea to rule out the autofire tendency of the D585s.

I'm not sure of what the numbers are, but they are from a 2019 6.0 that had 6K miles on it. I have what they were attached to as well 😉

I've chosen to have fun, and at 55 I'm going to do what I wanted to do when I was 25 - NO REGRETS. So to answer both of your questions and anyone else's - go faster and have fun doing it in a G-body!! 🙂
I think I've settled on a winner. Don't remove the 10Gs and the Keys. Put a line through it leaving it there. Then put this under it

My crank snout had some serious wear on it. I'm assuming from about a year ago when I found the balancer bolt loose. I never noticed it when I swapped to the SFI balancer because the wear was inside the front cover. So off to finding a crank - and finding a used 58 tooth crank that doesn't need to be cut has turned fruitless. I had access to a couple iffy ones, so my machine shop picked a winner and is cutting one to .010" under. Finding the crank bolt loose prompted the purchase of a flywheel lock :

This ^^^ thing works. And it makes getting the additional 140 degrees easy with 3-4' of cheater pipe on a breaker bar, just don't try it on a budget engine stand 🙂

$240 additional for cutting the crank and another $240 in H bearings. The block at .030 over with new cam bearings - $550, balancing rotating assembly - $250. OUCH, but....poop happens. I can't complain really for the work being done.

I just found these head gaskets. I believe that Tooley just got these made for them as I've never been able to find these anywhere.

These should help with a couple of things over the LS9 head gaskets I was running. 1st, a minor bump in compression of .1, and 2nd - help from putting any of the burn between the head and deck surface due to the smaller bore diameter. These have a 3.940 diameter as opposed to the 4.100 of the LS9. It doesn't seem like much, but every little bit is something. I keep a set of the BTR 7 layer LS9 head gaskets 'in stock' in my garage. Thankfully the 6.0 project I've been working on is the perfect home for the larger bore LS9's.

I’m sending out my injectors ‘just to be sure’ they aren’t a problem.

I thought I’d include some pics of $50 fuel rails with welded tabs and cut down rail mounts on a stick Trailblazer SS intake.

The block is back, the rotating assembly balanced and is ready for assembly (ring filing - ughh). My machine shop guy convinced me I should get it balanced (guilted me into it for something 8000 rpm capable - haha) Be advised, the Summit Pro piston/rod/ring with a stock crank took 35 grams to balance the entire mess. Is that a lot? Not sure, but it’s peace of mind (at least that’s what I’m telling myself.)

Monte Alban needs a Christmas present - what do you think?

Finally onto reassembly!

Crank is in, injectors are back (with no issues.) Have to test fit the cam in the new cam bushings. Then……………onto ring filing ( :-/ )

I’m debating what to do with the oil pump. I have it shimmed with .100 or so of shims to raise the pressure to a non scary number at hot idle, but now I have new (tight) bearings rather than the 150k mile junkyard bearings that I’ve treated like an old pair of shoes.

Also, I’m worrying that the extra couple of points of compression aren’t going to get me to an 8 or 9.1___ , so I’m 2nd guessing myself to death debating to add some nitrous.

It’s a daily ritual - tomorrow I’ll have thrown out the idea of a 50 shot to get it moving and by the day after I’ll have convinced myself I need it. This indecision is killing me 😉
