Once again Small block Olds gets no respect.

Trust me, the Olds 350 is just as reliable, it not more when abused. We had a 75 Cutlass that my ex BIL ditch drove at retarded speeds. He just plain bagged that car and had a pile of miles when my Sister got it. Yes it had a slight knock at the end but had well over 300,000 km. That car went to the wrecker's, he sold and someone drove it another 5 years. Remember it actually had enough power to hurt itself but had a solid bottom end, pre 77, unlike the 307. Although I had a 307 last 450,000 km. I could have put a timing chain in and went another couple of hundred thousand miles. Still decent power and minor oil usuage.

Think about this, if a sbc is so much more durable and powerful than an Olds then why did Chevy put 307's in the 80's Caprice wagons instead of a 305 ?

The Small Block Olds wasn't just the last carbureted V8 for GM, It was the most efficient V8 they had until the LT1. If GM had ever fuel injected the Olds motor, it would have surpassed the Chevy in GM. IMO.

The Olds 307 in the '80s Chev wagons probably had something to do with the fact that GM went to TBI on the SBC in the late '80s, which is when the wagons got the 307 Olds. GM probably didn't want to design a specific FI fuel tank for that particular wagon body style, when it was only going to be in production for a couple of years. Usually in matters like that, with GM, it boils down to dollars & cents.
