Since you guys are kinda local anyone know of a good speed shop for parts?

good question , I think ( dangerous as that is ) the few speed shops just order up from the states.

last year i wanted Bilsteins for my truck and i was dealing with B.C. based company and both front & rear shipped up from California to B.C. then to me in ontario ....and still I waited 3 months for the rears....guess not too many people installing them on 20 year old K-2500's.

the jeg's and summit's have what I want in stock and surprising good order desk people.

I would love to be able to drive down the street and pick up speed parts , but all i see on the shelf is coffee can exhaust for Honda's now adays.

please correct me if you know something different.

Dave

I got my AK Bilstein shocks from these guys ($84 each)
http://www.autopartscentres.com/stores/dorchester/

for UMI products {the prices are just a little above what UMI charges and works out well below what you would pay plus duty}
http://www.powerhouseperformance.ca/

good place for racing products that can be used on a street G body ( I picked up my steering joint for my Delphi box from there today)

Great links here Steve. Not just for you Ontarians, but for Canadians in general. Thank you.
I'm assuming you have personal experience in dealing with each of these companies and they're all solid and reputable?

Any one ever order from jegs or summit? Was shipping pricey?
I ordered from Summit all the time before the CDN dollar tanked. Excellent customer service and most stuff at my door in a week.
Shipping's not bad, it's the exchange rate of the dollar and duty and fees that gets you. I'm trying to wait till the dollar gets better or source stuff locally in the meantime.

If you know what you are looking for then I find to get the deals you have to pick up the phone and call around. I find dealing with them face to face nets me better pricing though. Performance Improvements are OK for some stuff and you can hammer them down on the pricing fairly easily. The guy I deal with over there will tell me if its in stock then we can haggle. If he has to order the stuff in then its not worth it IMO.

My retro roller setup was over $1200.00 with a 15% discount. I could have driven down to Buffalo and picked it up for $850.00 usd back when the dollar was at par

Oh and BTW another thumbs up for NOS reproductions. They have been pretty good to me, and went out of their way to help my wife buy surprise parts for my car for my birthday a couple years back.

I have dealt with mark over at Marken performance he is okay with some things but his prices can get out of hand sometimes for my engine stuff I went to Rudy helds(may he rest in peace) but I think I am just going to order online and ship it down to my brother who lives in Buffalo

yes I have dealt with all of them and NOS was very helpful in getting my t-top seals warrantied, APC in Dorchester sponsored our race car and are great at getting parts at good prices, Powerhouse got me the lower control arms at just a bit higher price then what UMI charges even with duty and taxes. Nice guy to talk with but he has no store so he keeps his overhead low, Grisdale is very helpful and there is alot of components for our cars that have been developed to use on a race car but can be an upgrade to a street car. You'll see the front tubular upper control arms that is sold on Speedway on the wall at Grisdales cause they were made for circle track cars. I have been using them on my street cars for years.

I know the owner of Marken and he's a friend and I have dealt with him through my business. His prices are not out of hand, some parts expensive and there is nothing he can do about it. He has helped me out after hours and he sponsors a late model so he can;t be all that bad. The US exchange is killing us up here and if you order in the US you might end up buying from Marken cause he sells alot from his online store in Florida. Rudy Helds is a store I stay away from.
