so whats everyones opinion on drag radials with a manual trans. i will be ordering 2 new back tires when i place my last mega order and wanted to figure out if i should just order 2 more street tires in 275/60 15 or go with a drag radial in the size. i have a muncie manual trans and an 8.5 posi rear with 3.42 gears and an upgraded aluminum hd driveshaft from driveline service

Deff go with a Drag radial. With a stick its even easier to break the tire loose. Unless doing burnouts and breaking the tires loose on shifts is what you want to do then street tires. Otherwise put the power to the ground with a good sticky tire.

gotcha. just heard some people say drag radial with stick = broken parts lol

Generally broken axles and driveshaft failure, but if i remember you already did some parts upgrades there so that helps. A stick in general usually leads to broken parts a little faster then a auto. But its all in how you beat on it. Parts that can fail will fail with either trans.

yeah i do have an upgraded driveshaft as well as hardened axles in the 8.5 with a girdle cover

My buddy uses slicks at the track and he's got a foxbody with a 5-speed. It's not a really fast car but it's a low 13 second car and he never has had an issue launching it. You should be pretty good on the drag radials you've got a pretty solid drivetrain

good to know. if it makes it even better i have c3 fab tubular upper rear arms, south side machine boxed lowered with swaybar, as well as umi control arm mount braces

ok so im def going to go with drag radials when i get around to ordering them. Now my concern is the size. I really really really want to run a 275/60/15. I think it would look really trick on there and hook pretty well. Here is my concern. Back in the day i ran a Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 in a 235/70/15 which is a 28 inch tire with a 7.7" tread width and 9.5" section width measured on a 7" wheel. I was Running saggy rear factory springs (regal limited if it matters) i had to use air shocks to carry people around. if i didnt keep a little air in them they would rub the frame and wheel well on the body side like crazy. With no one in back and a little air i had zero issues unless i took curves way too fast. Not I had no rear sway bar and was running 15x7 vette rally wheels which i believe are either 4.25" or 4" backspacing. I now will be running 15x8 vette rally wheels in the back with what i believe is 4" back space. The sagging factory springs were replaced with Hotchkis 1" drop springs. Height looks pretty good. Im guessing i could run a 3/8 spacer to get them away from the frame if i had to. Also i am now running a rear sway bar with solid lower control arms and tubular uppers as well as bilstien HD shocks. with the 215/65/15 on the 15 x7 wheel it looks like i have plenty of room for a 28" tire.

now i have no issues with rolling the fender lips as long as i can keep my wheel well moulding

here is a pic of how the old tires rubbed my frame and wheel wells.

That way if i had to run a shim/spacer for tire to frame/wheel well clearance i had plenty of stud outside the lug nut. I plan on cutting them down once i have everything setup.
