Those 14" tires are probably going to regret that 350 Olds unless you keep your foot out of the gas.🙂

Lol, no lies told sir! I was actually looking at your thread for the wheels and tires. I want to put at least 17s or 18s on her. I love your AR rims.. I need to upgrade the rear gears first.. then it's wheel and tires.. what you think?

Nice looking build, what are the specs on the motor? Is that one of the new Edelbrock AVS 2 carbs?

More rear gear can really make a car more peppy, but actual ratio is usually a compromise if you don't have overdrive. Wheels and tires are a very subjective subject. The Wheels/Tires/Brakes forum has thirty pages of info in wheel fitment guide sticky. It all depends on your end goal for the car. I considered 15" Olds SSII but knew I wanted to do a brake upgrade down the road, hence the 17"s. Of course there's the 17" SSII's now.

Some guys will say you can fit a 275/40-17 on the rear of our 78-80 Cutlass. My 255/45-17's on a 9" wide rim only have about 5/16" gap on the front and back side so not much room left, but that may be due to the ride height being lowered and the 9" rim width. I prefer the staggered setup on our cars because in my opinion the rear wheel wells make the rear tires look small with a square setup. I actually bought two 8" rims and tires and tried them on the front and rear before I committed to the 9" rears. Injected Cutty is running the same rims as me, in 7" and 8" widths, but not sure what size tires he has. Maybe he will chime in.

Thanks man.. It's been quite a few years.. So the motor came from I believe was as an 73 Olds Cutlass.. it's an older edelbrock 1406-600 rebuilt carb.. th200 trans.. hedman headers 3in pipes to a dual exhaust with Magnaflow delta mufflers. I had the build done at a local shop.. it's a bit loud for my liking but its growing on me... Have to bring it back since the exhaust has a leak.. the mechanic said he needs to pull the engine to get to the front bolts and get them sealed.

Hey man I'm a rookie at this.. let me see if I get what ya throwing.. I need more pep.. she's soooo weak getting out of first into second gear.. I don't have overdrive so what do you suggest? My mechanic was saying 3:73 would be good as i would not have to modify much.. I want a wkend car that has a little pep.. Nothing too fast.. I really like the bigger tires in the rear and slight smaller up front, but I'd probably like the 7" or 8" im sure. I'm open to any suggestions..

Do you know where I could find the vinyl trim? I need the top and passenger side trims.. but i might get rid of the vinyl altogether... not sure.. I've seen a Cutlass wrapped and it looked good.

I don’t think you’d be happy with a 3.73 gear if you take your car on the highway at all. I switched to a 3.08 and its a good compromise.

Your second gear ratio in the TH200 is 1.57. If you have a 2.29 rear gear currently, driving in second gear is 2.29x1.57=3.59(in between 3.42 and 3.73). Cruise around a little with trans in second gear and that would give you an idea of how much the engine revs with a rear gear in that range. High revs at highway speeds, higher fuel consumption, and more engine wear are the downside to high numerical rear gears. You could have a 2.41 rear gear currently, that would give you 3.78 in second (1.57x2.41). I guess it could be a 2.56 or 2.73 also???
