This is my friend's 80 something El Camino. He brought it by yesterday to show me the paint job he did. This is acrylic enamal paint from Lowes sprayed with a small compresser in his garage. This is only the first coat, with about three more to come, but in my personal opinion it looks damn good. The GP will be done in the same way, so this is kind of a little preview for me.

Not bad! It does look a little bit flat, is he going to shoot a clear coat over that when its finished? At least this way your buddy get to practice on his car instead of your GP right?

Yeah, would have saved some work/time to flash then recoat until done. Only 1 tape job that way and less chance of contamination. Not bad especially for a first timer. And did u say "Lowes" as in Hardware store? They sell Automotive paint? Not here, they don't.
Anyway, after a good washing and polish it'll look even better.

yeah he will need to re-tape it and all that, but the paint takes about a day and a half to fully dry. i dont think he's gonna clear coat it, because the paint can be buffed to a nice finish without it.

Alright, well lets see some pictures when its all done! I bet it will look good when its polished up!

it might not be an automotive paint. a friend of mine did his truck with tremclad. it looked great sprayed on with a gun but the shine only lastd 2-3 years.

Ah, so that's why your car is already fading!

Props to him for doing the paint job himself... I know I could never do that; let alone make it look halfway decent
