Best way to prep and paint interior pieces. Any pics of your transformations or processes? I was just going to wipe everything down with lacquer prime and shoot with vinyl or plastic paint. Going to switch the ugly brownish, greenish, tanish interior to black.

dye the vinyl, dont paint it
use a good plastic primer and paint for the plastic bits and clean/prep them according to the directions on the can.

No matter what you do, it will peel eventually. However there are methods that last longer than others and products that are better than others. Not all panels are the same material, so be sure to follow the manufacturers directions for the material you are dyeing. Try going to SEM's website and see what they have to offer. They make pretty good products and I have had good results from them in the past.

Clarification... a dye changes the color of the existing material, like RIT changes the color of fabric.
A paint is a coating that is applied on top of the existing material.
All the interior coatings I've seen are of the later type.
They are unique because theyre designed to be applied to plastics, and from my experience...do a very good job.
I've even used regular spray can paint on the hard plastic...no problems after four years. Flexible dashes, door panel vinyl...they would undoubtedly crack.

Doesn't Duplicolor sell some vinyl paint in an aerosol can? I have seen tons of tuner cars that are painted interior's.

They all look like *ss and peel within a year. There are some done well that don't but they are few and far between.

there's a company called "Bryndana" google that and they've got a set of products there for that purpose, Hot Rod did a test on it a couple of years ago and its supposed to do better than anything else, im going to try it for my dash

yes Duplicolor sells plastic and fabric dye in a can it works great but any type of dye over plastic peals over time the dye works great on carpet seats and vinyl

I did a bunch of vinyl panels and plastic interior pieces from beige to black and it worked mint...no *ss, no peel and its been on there for 3 years. I got it from Parasol Inc. Its an actual dye and you need plastic prep as well.

I have had better luck with brittle hard plastic and vinyl than the softer plastics like the lower door panels, kick panels, etc are made of. With that being said, what kind of prep solution is best for a dash? the reason I ask is that I found a dash in great shape, but it's like a dark grayish brown color and I need dark blue. I have the SEM dye left over from redoing the headliner trims and the end caps from the B pillar trims and want to use that. It's a perfect match for the dark blue color of the interior.
