I have owned several factory 4 speed Malibus now and never had a problem with that lower rod dropping out. I could take pictures to show you where it hooks

A picture of where it hooks on the frame would be awesome.

Factory 4 speed cars should already have the upper stop on the pedal assembly though.

This aftermarket kit doesn't include one and the pedal will lift quite high without it. This is how it looked with the lower pushrod included in the kit.

The pedal comes up high even with the factory pedal stop. You need the high pedal to get full travel of the clutch.

Where it is in my picture the clutch was fully disengaged before the clutch pedal was even with the brake pedal, any more than that and it was going to start bending the linkage.

Here is mine. Keep in mind I am using the heim jointed Speed Direct clutch push rods. Mine was still like this with stock GM parts.

Yeah that's where mine is now. Hard to see in my picture, but where it was before was probably the same height as the front of the seat. I'd never be able to get my foot in it.


got it all sorted out now clutch feels nice. I just need to get a shifter thats easier to reach. LOL.

MadMonte, sorry that I totally hijacked your thread. I kind of feel like an *ss about it, but it appeared right when I needed it.
Any chance I could pay you to mail me a couple of those bushings from ace? My local store doesn't have any that fit, and I don't have much faith in the nylon one.

I guess I'm adding to the hijacking (but in a good way) but after reading your posting I ran down to the local hardware store to see if they had any & struck out. But from taking the old upper rod & spare pedal I was able to see the ideal size would be 5/16 i.d. x 3/8 o.d. x 1/4 long. If finding a metric one a 8mm i.d. would work.

Edit: corrected the i.d. & o.d. Depepnding how worn the holes are maybe a 1/2 o.d. a better fit.

That's awesome.. I only have a shitty pair of plastic AutoZone calipers... They just don't cut it in the real world.
