This would be a general question I believe for most of the people on this forum. Not sure if this is the right forum BUT didn't want it to be based on a specific model because I have many across the spectrum. I am in search of a shop that has knowledge / expertise in not only our era vehicles but also can handle performance modifications, whether new modifications to be performed, say transmission swap, rear-end swap, perhaps exhaust / muffler, trouble-shooting new or existing mods or perhaps general maintenance on existing modifications.
Basically I’m looking for a performance shop or a shop that does restorations but also work that is above simple oil / fluid changes, belts replacement or the God-forbid “Huh, uuummm, well, what kind of car, a carburetor?!?!?!…”. Not looking for a local place that “could-possibly-maybe” do the work or a chain like Meineke, Car-X. I have enough problems trying to explain to parts store counter-people how the engine may be 350c.i. (and what that translates to in litres) but it’s NOT a SBC; I know your computer shows that part won’t fit that year of car but it’s not stock; yes, I need brakes for a Ford 9” inch even though I drove up in an Olds Cutlass, Chevy Malibu...
My back and joints aren’t what they used to be so trying to do major work w/o a lift is starting to get a little hectic. Plus if I do something on one of the vehicles it’s a little nice to know there is a back-up I can get it to just in case I dig the whole too deep or if I don’t have the time.
I am in the Oswego / Britsol area of Illinois.
