Re: Picking up an '82 Cutlass

Ya no kidding that spoiler with that small cowl looks damn good.

Keep that SBC no matter what anyone says. You seem like a practical guy. SBC are the practical performance route and are arguably at least just as good as any SBO.

Sweet lookin Cutlass, though. That color looks real good and the interior is in pretty good shape. Plus I like that steering wheel that came with it.

Re: Picking up an '82 Cutlass

Super nice Cutlass. I'm one to keep an Olds motor in an Olds, but heck if it's a runner I wouldn't worry about it. At least it's drivable! As long as you are happy with it, anybody else's opinion doesn't matter. I'd be proud to drive it!

And I LIKE the rims on it. They are different, but I think they do suit the car. Never saw them before.

Sadly, the guy I bought it from has no idea on the specs of the cam. I will probably pull the cam this summer and find out for sure what it is. I don't think it is too radical of a cam though as the heads appear to be stock, though they could be modified to accept higher lift. Either way, I have a set of Trick Flow heads and roller rockers on the 350 in my '94 S10 Blazer that will make it's way onto this engine and at that time I will probably pick up a good cam for it as well if this one turns out to be a mild cam with a nice aggressive idle like I think it is.

The drive down was not bad, used about $40 in gas to pick up the trailer and get down there. The bad part about the drive down is that the shocks on my dad's truck are SHOT and it was actually quite scary to drive it as some of the roads were pretty bumpy and the truck was all over the road because the tires were constantly losing contact with the road... yea, dangerous

Luckily though, with the added weight of the car on the trailer, the ride home was MUCH smoother. Of course though, we did get stuck in rush hour traffic in Grand Rapids, took about 20 minutes to go one mile  I thought the drive home would be MUCH worse on gas going 70 with the overdrive off, but to my surprise I think we might have used $10 more, if that. I do have one thing to say about my dad's truck though, that 318 is a completely gutless wonder. It could hardly move out of it's own way

Before we got home, we also stopped at the auto parts store that I always go to and picked up some shocks for my dad's truck that I will be putting on in the next couple days. It needs it  While we were at the parts store, the guys there went out to check it out, I tried to fire it up for them, but no go :angry7: After a quick diagnosis, found the accelerator pump is bad on the Edelbrock carb. Went in and bought a can of starting fluid, gave it a quick shot and it fired right up. Now I know why he was outside getting it started before I got there... Oh well, it just so happen to have a good accelerator pump for that carb that will likely go on 😛

I still can't quite get my camera to get a good picture of the paint, however, the first pic of it on the trailer is about the best one so far.

It is already plated and insured, drove it to the gas station yesterday then to the shop to get the rust fixed. That will be done next week, then the interior work will hopefully start, that will likely be a work in progress though as I will be driving it as soon as the salt is cleared from the roads. There really isn't much salt right now, but still more then I want to daily drive on.

I tell you though, even though it was just about a 20 mile drive, I am absolutely crazy for this car! While at the gas station, there was about three people walking in that about broke their necks looking at it as they walked by, even had a guy stop me on my way out and chatted for about 15 minutes, finally told him I had to go to work! Yup, this car has "it" 8)

When the weather gets nice, it will get a two stage buff with Menzerna polishes and then probably some Pinnacle Souveran wax, it is going to look incredible, trust me.

nice pick up. I agree with you, the color is very nice. and the chrome is in excellent shape!!! Does need to be lowered and new wheels and the interior could use some upgrades, but it's a very nice car!!! congrats

F**king sweet bro! LOVE IT. Love that "it" factor thing too!

It's things like that, that got me addicted to G-bodies myself. I remember driving my first Grand Prix and a kid on a moving schoolbus gave me a thumbs up while his buddies watched. I reciprocated. In one minute, the ENTIRE BUS LOAD of kids were hoarding to the rear corner of the bus -- mind you -- while the bus was still MOVING, every one of them had a thumbs up for me (well, it was the car actually, lol). You just don't forget stuff like that.

I've been looking at this for a while now. In my opinion, that car would look sinister with a set of 17" AR Torque Thrusts (the grey ones w/ chrome lip) and a lowered stance. Just my opinion though...

I very much agree with you, though I would stick with all chrome. Hopefully next year I can get a nice set for it, for now though, these will work.
