hey guys i have a 86 cutlass planing on doing a trany swap i have a th350 with a 389 gears ....i want a over drive transmission but want to stay away from the tv cable setups....has anyone done the 4l60E transmission install yet in a g-body any info would help .

First, make that avatar smaller. Second, a 4L60E will be a more complicated install than any analog transmission. The "E" means it has an electronically controlled valve body that runs off a combination of VSS, TPS and MAP sensor data points to determine when it shifts. Now some diesel pickups use a controller that does not rely on engine sensor readings, but it will have a calibration that is wholly unsuitable for a gasoline car engine. This means you will need a custom TCU, or a custom programmed TCU. All this will cost you several times the price of a good TH 200 4R and the right brackets for a TV cable.

There is another alternative for an overdrive without a TV cable- it's called a manual transmission.

i have never seen a tv cable transmission work with any kit being sold that lasts more than a year on a proformance motor....i have 4 transmission shops saying the same thing where i live !!! stick would be a good idea but not sure on the install yet ...and gear venders overdrives is another way out .

when you say[ performance motor] what do you mean???

You will have to be more specific as to what carb you have for us to make a recommendation. If you run a Quadrajet with a GM throttle cable bracket, the geometry will be fine and it should work well provided it is set correctly.

I also agree that you need to post what engine you are running to give a more accurate recommendation. Plus, what is your budget? Most of us here are rather low buck in nature and recommend things based on that proclivity. If you have a generous budget, things change. In any case, I would run a manual if you can afford it as they are much more fun. The only time I would avoid a manual is in a bracket car as automatics are more consistent.

My GN has OVER 400 HP at the rear wheels and the 200-4R is at least 15 years old!

where did you get your transmission done and your the only one i know that got 15 years out of a transmission with 400 hp at rear wheel with a 200-4r!!! how do you drive it ? i have a chevy 350 with a elderbrock carb..i know of the peace u can buy to make the tv cable work.my friends with the same style motors all had transmission shops do there work and they all blew up every one ,and all built by different people.

A GREAT 200-4R can be had from a shop that specializes in them. I also have a 200-4R in my GN Clone Regal that is original from 1986... You should search the web of the bb to find a good 200-4R shop. Most transmission shops will build a 200-4R that you won't be happy with.

that is interesting i wounder if anyone has this installed yet in theres ?
