I wouldn't think so. I believe, the pump is trying to make the same pressure all the time and its just regulated within the valve body and other variables like the TV cable. I'm no expert though. One thing is for certain though, an incorrectly adjusted tv cable will definetely kill the transmission faster than letting even a stock pump work all the time(since it does anyway) at any pressure.

I seen Stacey David install one on his 'Copperhead' project on trucks. He talked a bit about it and they sound pretty cool. He said with a button on his shift handle, he basically could use his 3 speed auto as a 6 speed. And they are supposed to be able to handle quite a bit of power I think.
