14mm is slightly tighter than 9/16. 15mm is slightly looser. If you crack another Craftsman, try an impact socket instead (black, thicker walls). You won't crack that.

Oh, and if you run without the flexplate and it comes loose or shatters, it can slice right through the transmission case and the floor of the car to take your foot off! Not a good idea to go without it.

I agree with supercrackerbox Heat, I was just working on one PB did not help but heating it worked.

Alright so i finaly got the flexplate off, A local automotive shop let me borrow a breaker bar and an impact socket ment for stripped bolts and that did the trick.

But i've ran into a new problem, the flexplate i bought is to big? i'm certain this is a chevy 350 but the old flexplate is smaller and has a much different bolt pattern than the other.

The old flexplate has a 6 bolt pattern evenly spaced apart while the new one has a 7 bolt pattern spaced un-evenly appart, i'll upload a picture of both of them soon for some comparison, anybody have any idea what the deal is here?

Chevy small block used 2 different size flexplates through the years (that I know of) a 168 tooth and a 153 tooth. I'm not exactly sure about year specifics but they are considerably different in overall size.

Yes, there are two different flexplate ring gear tooth counts, but there are also two different bolt patterns as well. One is for 1985 and earlier 2 piece crank seal engines and the other is for one piece rear seal engines. The two will not interchange. It sounds like you need one for the later one piece seal engine and got one for a pre 1980 application, which will not fit your engine. So, go buy a flexplate for a 1987 305 or 350 (same part as all SBC's except for the 400 use a neutral balance flywheel). The easy way to say it is that you need a 153 tooth flexplate for a one piece rear main seal engine.

The 87' and up 350 does not use a neutral balance flexplate. You can see the original one in his pic has a weight on it. But ya just get one for an 88' truck 350 and you should be fine.
