A couple points to consider:
-It IS a long holiday weekend. Interrupted mail service. Seller may be out of town.
-I don't believe you can file for lost title unless the car was previously registered in YOUR name. Every state is a bit different though.
I think it might be premature to freak out. Save all your correspondence records and give it a couple more days. I wouldn't expect any help from the police since the car isn't technically stolen. It's a civil matter. Did you photocopy the title before you sent it back to the seller?

If the seller doesnt get it worked out for you. How to get a title depends on what state you live in. Many states allow what is called a "bonded" title. This means you have to show proof of your purchase and buy a bond for the value of the car before they issue you a title. This is in case someone else shows up claiming to own it. In other states you need to get a court order which isnt all that difficult either. Initiate a small claims case against the seller, she wont show up, the judge will issue you a title. So it may cost you a few hundred bucks to get your title, but you will get one.
In all probability the seller will come through. There is no "upside" to her not to at this point.

well, a few days ago, she FINALLY responded to me, after numerous emails, texts, calls, and even sending a message thru ebay. She claimed she wasn't able to do it last week, because of her work schedule conflicting with the banks hours of operation, which were different due to the holiday. I believe her 100%, but she still could've answered a text and kept me up to date.
She had the paperwork done, notarized, and mailed by Monday afternoon. I should've received the package Wednesday, but she put the wrong zip code on there, and I didn't get it till today (friday), which had me stressing cause the mail normally runs around 1500, and the courthouse closes shortly after that. But I got it at 0900 this morning, thank God.
So finally, today I got the title transferred, and a tag, and can finally drive to Louisiana this weekend. Thanks for the help and advice guys.

great that it worked out..I always try not to consider someone else's actions relative to the way I handle things so that helps me not to let things I have no control over bother me...
