I have a TH400 and a GV overdrive. I spent $500 to have it gone through, install new clucth packs, rebuild front pump and install a Stg3 Trans-Go full manual shift kit. (the trans guy was good to me).
I spent close to $2k for a GV overdrive.
A transmission guy later explained to me that the 4L80E would have been cheaper in the end.

Cost of drive shaft shortening is the same for any trans, and so is the cross member. You dont need to cut the floor to instal them, theres plenty of G bodies running them. Not sure why you'd need headers with them. You can spend on electronics if you want to, but thats a headache in my view.
They are just as tough or tougher than a TH400, so whatever you would do to the TH400, you could do to the 4L80E to make it live.
