Cost of drive shaft shortening is the same for any trans, and so is the cross member. You dont need to cut the floor to instal them, theres plenty of G bodies running them. Not sure why you'd need headers with them. You can spend on electronics if you want to, but thats a headache in my view.

They are just as tough or tougher than a TH400, so whatever you would do to the TH400, you could do to the 4L80E to make it live.
The problems only come from some full length headers. I was just reading on malibu racing that alot of the full length headers put the exhaust too close to the shift linkage and some people run into issues. He also stated a small dent in the floor was needed to make room for the mech spedometer cable to avoid binding issues.

Gotcha. I recall the dent as well.

I searched on a turbo buick site, and I didnt read up on anyone having to cut the floor. It was a while ago, so I may be remembering wrong.

I have a TH400 and a GV overdrive. I spent $500 to have it gone through, install new clucth packs, rebuild front pump and install a Stg3 Trans-Go full manual shift kit. (the trans guy was good to me).

I spent close to $2k for a GV overdrive.

A transmission guy later explained to me that the 4L80E would have been cheaper in the end.

-Shift kit
-Full manual shift kit
-Torque converter

then from that aspect it would have been cheaper then if you were to just get a 4l80e vs the additional od gear.I have research that additional gear that you were referring to and yes it is not a reasonanable option for me.

I've been running a TCI full comp 400 behind my big blocks for well over 13 years and I will definitely go with a Gear Vendors if I decide to add overdrive and as a plus it becomes a 6 speed with the GV unit attached.
My buddy has a street driven 69 Nova with a 598 BBC and nitrous and this is the set up he is using and he loves it and yes it is not cheap but the power they can handle has been well proven.
