I have a 73-77 a body 10 bolt 2:56 posi and was wondering if the posi unit would fit my 84 Grand National Rear. I dont mean swapping the whole rear just the posi unit inside. If you need any other specs let me know.
The differential should swap if your GN rear is an 8.5. The 73-77 A body had the 8.5 ten bolt as standard equipment.
The problem is that the 2.56 carrier will not readily accept better gears from the 3.xx series. I think you can buy thicker gears aftermarket, but I'm not sure about that.
I know you can buy the thicker springs or spacers for the 7.5", so they should make them for the 8.5". Check summit or Jegs.
Does anyone show how the width/ mounting on the A Body's differ. Can they be adapted to fit the G-body's? There is a local yard around here with quite a few A-body's that could be a good source. If so, anyone wanna buy a 7.5' w/ possi and 3.73's (just kidding until I get a replacement).
a body rears require adjustable upper control arms, and they are approx 2" longer than the g body ones. so you would need more b/s for the wheels to fit the same as they are now
