The tale of the storage unit auction mystery car.

I see that frame will need the typical #2 passenger body mount repair. Hopefully that is all the repair it needs.
I'll get it up on stands and give it a good inspection and get good pics this weekend but I've not seen anything other than typical pitting/rust around the body mount area. My Lincoln welder will make short work of that. I know about the common rear wheel arch rust issue and Swiss cheese all the way back to the bumper, but this ones mint back there. Any other areas I might not be aware of, I should give extra attention? I appreciate the advice from you guys that are literally the subject matter experts.

The body could be in a other storage unit.

I've been watching the site just in case but nothing yet, this specific location doesn't do auctions often usually every 30 days so I'm keeping an eye out. Honestly to me it looks like a perfect "Monte Carlo shell" and body parts, sized open spot in the unit if you look at the first pics from the auction site. Just a guess but I'm thinking the body was there and then went to sandblast or body shop.

Went to sandblast, got warped 6 ways to Sunday, guy got discouraged, project stalled, he passed

Let;s hope this wasn't the case

Partial VIN should be on top of the side rails of the frame, near door area

Excellent find- even better than you led on earlier! Just how lucky were you though? Under $2k? Regardless, I'm definitely interested in seeing this unfold.

You can barely see the ghost outline of the factory stripes that have been removed on the bumpers, but the Chevrolet graphic remains. It was a black car with gray interior so possibly he was going for that mean all black look or he was prepping for paint by starting to removing vinyl. Mirrors are in good shape and still work, nowadays factory power mirrors, or related components are junk in just a few years haha. Technology is great. The hvac control head tells us this car was factory equipped with AC, but this guy was having none of that jazz. Just like Ricky Bobby, he just wanted to go fast. AC was deleted along with some other stuff we will get into later. He obviously didn't believe in using, or maybe just never even carried the factory spare tire, weight reduction? I like his style! Because this one's dated 15 days before the chassis and has never hit the road. Still has the rubber mold flashing around the tread. Just a few pics of some of the small stuff too, still lots more. Even the t-tops are disassembled, but thankfully the mechanisms are taped together very well and all the parts seem to still be together.

With Cleetus McFarland being here in my hometown this weekend for Cleetus and cars, tons of cools cars everywhere and me looking at this SS, chassis, drivetrain and rear end, the thought of a an SS version of Leroy quickly shot through my mind. Haha definitely joking, I think a couple of guys on here would actually hunt me down!

Heres some engine and head pics. Numbers are coming back as an 83 built on July 8th, for a T/A or Z28 "LU5" crossfire engine or just a regular tbi. I'm working on decoding the partial Vin on the block now to hopefully figure out which one. If you have any info let me know please. The 416 heads were apparently popular for valve upgrades and porting but these exhaust runners look stock without, cleaning and any real close inspection. Note the cork gaskets everywhere, even on the China wall, and none of them were leaking....yet. Stainless socket head hardware everywhere plus a big bag full of tons more from disassembly and he deleted absolutely everything ac, emissions, fan, cruise, even the choke on the red headed step child of Holley carbs, the long gone 4010! The engine looks super clean inside and very fresh all over, in the one pic that shows the head gasket up close you can barely see in the background that the block has pitcock drains (both sides) where the block drain plugs usually are, we've all seen that on street/strip cars for decades. Polished (at one time) alternator is 85a with hand etched build number in the case from the shop that sold it probably 30 years ago. Flex plate is brand new I think. The dizzy has the Ignition control module removed and the hall effect sensor wires lengthened to reach out of the cap I can only assume to an old school Ignition box that I didn't get. Perfomer rpm intake was new when built also. Still need to verify if this is the 12.7:1 steering box too. I can't see any paint markings, might have to take a peak inside I guess. I looked at the chassis found 3 mount areas that need a little work. Both front "cabin" mounts and the drivers rear right behind the bumper. That's it though, very minimal repair. Didn't have any help to get it moved to take pics, hopefully tomorrow I'll get some. I'll probably just snag the cab mount areas off the chassis of my parts 96 S10 i was already going to take the front suspension parts off of for this Monte chassis anyway and just plasma out the section I need for a little patch if the mount holes are the same size. Gotta love GM.
